Redfern’s Cottage Museum

Summary

Redfern’s Cottage features five museum galleries that chart the story of Uttoxeter from a small Anglo-Saxon settlement to the modern town of today.

Explore Uttoxeter’s history and the story of its’ inhabitants through our museum.

Did you know that Uttoxeter was once a major centre for cheese production, the writer of the first English dictionary once stood in the rain in the marketplace or that a multimillion pound international business started out in a small garage off High Street?

These are just some of the stories that feature in the six galleries that tell the story of Uttoxeter.

We tell the stories of Uttoxeter and welcome you to come and experience them.

Redfern’s Cottage also includes a gift shop which supports a wide variety of local makers, authors and poets with a variety of reasonably priced handmade gifts to suit all tastes. The shop also stocks a wonderful range of exclusive Uttoxeter branded ceramics and gifts as well as local history books, cards and post cards.

Education & Schools

We are currently redesigning our education programme for schools, home educated groups and other educational and social groups. Our new programme will be based around National Curriculum guidelines on history for Key Stages 1 and 2, beginning with Uttoxeter’s Anglo- Saxon connections and covering key periods through to the late Victorians.

Each activity will consider Uttoxeter within its world-wide historical setting, allowing pupils to become fully emerged with the museum’s collection and stories. To take part in our Free Pilot Education Sessions then please contact us.
