Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

We are committed to ensuring the accessibility of our website for all users. However, we have identified an area that may present challenges for some users:

Homepage Header Video Controls:

The video element featured in the homepage banner requires users to press the Tab key twice to access the video controls. The first Tab press highlights the video itself, and the second Tab press navigates through the control buttons. While this functionality is operable via keyboard and does not constitute a keyboard trap, we acknowledge that the additional Tab keypresses may hinder a seamless navigation experience for some users. We are actively exploring solutions to streamline this interaction and enhance accessibility.

Filter Options on the “What’s On” Page:

Some filter input fields currently do not include label elements. Proper labels help assistive technologies understand the purpose of each input field, reduce confusion, and enlarge the clickable area for users with limited motor control. While the filters are still functional, the absence of labels may make navigation and selection less intuitive for some users. We are reviewing these elements to improve clarity and usability.

Embedded Map on the “Explore Staffordshire” Page:

The interactive map is embedded as an iframe, which can limit control and affect how users interact with it. The map currently uses colour combinations that may be difficult to distinguish for users with visual impairments. Additionally, navigating the map via keyboard requires multiple Tab key presses, which may impact ease of use for some users. While the map is functional, we recognise that improvements in colour contrast, keyboard navigation, and interaction within the iframe could enhance accessibility, and we are exploring solutions to address these issues.

We continuously strive to improve our website’s accessibility and welcome feedback to help us achieve this goal.
