The Gambia sits in the western part of Africa — a former British colony that gained its independence in 1965 and became a republic in 1970. With a population of 2.4 million people across 11,300 square kilometres, it is a nation made up of many proud communities including the Mandinka, Fula, Jola, Sarahule, Manjago and many more.

Join the BACA to celebrate and experience the living traditions of the Mandinka and Sarahule peoples through cultural performances full of rhythm, movement and storytelling passed down through generations.

And come hungry! Two Gambian classics will be on the menu:

Benachin (also known as Jollof Rice) — rich, flavourful and deeply loved across West Africa
Foutou — a traditional Gambian staple and pure comfort on a plate
