Burton Gaol Ghost Walk

Join us for a spine-tingling evening exploring the haunted history of Burton upon Trent. This guided ghost walk reveals not only the eerie tales of Burton Gaol but also real-life paranormal experiences reported by the public.

Burton may be world-famous for its brewing heritage, but its past holds far darker secrets – including legends of the Holy Grail and centuries of crime, punishment, and restless spirits.

The History of Burton Gaol

• Established in the 1270s, Burton’s lock-up was nicknamed “Helle” due to its dreadful conditions.

• Over the years, it served as a prison, a vicarage, and even a pub – where landlords were once responsible for guarding prisoners!

• The building is said to be haunted by a witch, a gaoler, a priest, and many others, some of whom are known to interact with visitors during tours.

What to Expect

• Begin the evening inside The Royal Oak (Burton Gaol).

• Hear chilling stories and explore Burton’s darker history on a guided walk through the town.

• Return to The Royal Oak to finish the evening – your ticket includes £5.50 towards a drink at the bar.
