As part of Burton Cultural Celebration, discover a unique exhibition celebrating Burton’s people, culture and world-famous brewing heritage at The Brewhouse Arts Centre.

Artist Jo Gane created three sculptural beer barrels using paper, print and hand-sewn quotes gathered from the people of Burton. Inspired by conversations with local residents, the installation celebrates the often overlooked stories of women in brewing and their contribution to the town’s rich history.

Alongside the installation, the then Staffordshire Poet Laureate, Scarlett Ward, created a specially commissioned poem celebrating Burton, its people and its unique identity.

Together, these works capture the voices of our community and celebrate the heritage, creativity and pride that continue to shape Burton today.

The exhibition is free to view during The Brewhouse Arts Centre’s opening hours.

About the project: The exhibition was created as part of Our Freedom: Then & Now, a UK-wide creative programme led by Future Arts Centres. The Brewhouse was one of just 60 arts centres and libraries across the UK selected to take part. Supported using public funding by the UK Government through Arts Council England, the programme invited communities to explore what freedom means today while marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
