The Poetry Walk will take you on a guided route through Burton Upton Trent with spoken word performances at stops along the way. There is also a writing element where you will stop to respond to writing prompts inspired by the river and key points of interest shared along the route. No writing experience is needed, you will be given guides and prompts throughout, making this a great experience for both seasoned writers and those new to it.

The route will start behind the Library then go round the river, taking in the Abbey, the Church, the Market Place and the High Street, before ending back at the Library where you will be encouraged to share your work if you wish to.

A notepad and pen will be provided.

The event will last roughly 3 hours.

The walk will be led by Debbie Violet, who writes micro-fiction and poetry. Her work has been published on Five Minute Lit, Planet paragraph and played on BBC upload. She is working on a pamphlet of poems with a working class lens; tutors English part time, interviews writers on her Scribes Aloud podcast with BurtonRadio. She hosts Scribes Aloud open mic monthly, which was also part of the Swadlincote Festival of Words, and Repton Festival. She leads Swad Scribes writing workshops; is a Burtonian, who now resides on her narrowboat
