Guerilla Van Gigs
Something is coming to Burton, but nobody knows exactly where.
On Friday August 14th, a rotating cast of artists will perform live from the Sonic Boom van that will appear without warning at locations across the town throughout the evening. One minute it’s parked up outside a pub, the next it’s pulled up in a car park or a side street. Follow along on social media, keep your ears open, or just stumble across it! However you find it, the gig is coming to you.
Spontaneous, unpredictable, and impossible to plan around, these guerrilla-style van gigs turn the whole of Burton into a venue for one afternoon only.

Emzae
Emzae is a solo artist, producer, mixing engineer and multi-instrumentalist whose music spans synth pop, electronica, indie and alternative. A fierce independent, she writes, records, produces and mixes everything herself, playing every instrument and singing every vocal layer to create a sound that blurs genre boundaries while remaining distinctly her own. Early support from BBC Introducing and live slots supporting the likes of Altered Images and LoneLady established her on the circuit, and in 2023 she released her debut album ‘All Those Things I Thought I Knew’ on her own label Zirconia Records. Her lyrics tackle self-doubt, empowerment and social commentary, and her work is shaped by a passion for building a sustainable, health-first career in music and encouraging others to do the same.
Rosie Raith
Hailing from Derby, Rosie Faith’s heartfelt songs explore themes of love, loss, and social justice. Her live performances blend the raw honesty of voice and guitar with the rich textures of live looping; building harmonies in real time. The result is a sound that shifts between stripped back simplicity and poignant musical layers.
Rooted in meaningful storytelling, her music invites listeners to think, feel, and connect.
Star From Ivy
Star From Ivy are a rock band from Burton-upon-Trent, formed in 2001. The four-piece, Chris Baldwin (vocals, guitar), Dan Baker (guitar), Steve Gibbs (bass), and Mark Maczkowski (drums), have spent over two decades building a body of work rooted in big themes: war, identity, depression, connection. Their defining record, Circularity (2016), set them apart from most rock bands. A 14-song album conceived as an open-source project inspired by the circular economy, with every stem made freely available for fans to remix and reimagine. The concept spawned a community platform, a browser-based remix tool, a live event series, and a TEDx talk from vocalist Chris Baldwin. The songs themselves are what keep people coming back.
